PID – protection from harmful VOCs

چکیده

Introduction Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) tend to be liquids which readily give off vapour at room temperature1, such as solvents and fuels. At high concentrations, these vapours can explode. At extremely low levels, they can be toxic. While the impact of exposure can sometimes be felt immediately, frequently symptoms may not become apparent for months if not years afterwards. This type of chronic illness can result from repeated and extended low-level exposure. Increased awareness of the chronic toxicity of VOCs has led to reduced occupational exposure limits (OEL) and increased requirements for direct measurement.

Background and aims: In the field of chemical agents at workplaces, traditional measurement method for assessing the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) concentration is using a gas chromatograph generally equipped with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID). However, there are some limitations in working with this equipment including equipment accessibility, necessity of highly trained operators...

Habitation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the aura of Agra the city of Taj Mahal

When speaking about harm to the human body in the term of pollution, indoor pollution is equally harmful as the outdoor pollution. Volatile Organic Compounds contribute to the toxic oxidants which are harmful to the ecosystem, human health and atmosphere. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are major group of air pollutants which play critical role in atmospheric chemistry. It contributes to toxi...

FO3REST - Ozone and Climate Change Impacts on French and Italian Forests: Refinement of criteria and thresholds for forest protection

In the stratosphere, the ozone (O3) plays a role of natural and beneficial screen in relation to the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) for the organic matter (= good ozone). In the troposphere, O3 is a pollutant that is produced during the atmospheric photo-oxidation of ozone precursors: Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) mainly emitted by anthropogenic activities (= ...

Determination of physiological levels of volatile organic compounds in blood using static headspace capillary gas chromatography with serial triple detection.

A static capillary gas chromatographic method using three different detectors [photoionization detector (PID), electron capture detector (ECD) and flame ionization detector (FID)] switched in series is presented for the determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in sub microgram l-1 levels. The method was applied for the analysis of selected environmentally and occupationally relevant n...

Identification of volatile organic compounds of some Trichoderma species using static headspace gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

Fungi release wide spectrum of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that belong to several chemical groups with different biochemical origins such as monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, alcohols, aldehydes, aromatic compounds, esters, furans, ketones, sulfur and nitrogen compounds. Trichoderma species are the most studied fungal biocontrol agents and are successfully used as biofungicides and biofertili...
